Exam Sessions / Study Materials
The MSOE Amateur Radio Club has its own Volunteer Examiner (VE) Team,
which works under the direction of the American Radio Relay League VEC
Office to administer amateur radio license examinations right here at
MSOE. If you are interested in taking an amateur radio licensing exam,
contact
Nick Luther at <luthern at msoe dot edu>.
Next Exam Session
|
The next MSOE ARC VE Team exam session is scheduled for
1:00 pm, Monday May 14, 2006 in room S-243 in the science
building (912 North Milwaukee Street).
Preregistration is required. The exam fee is $14, payable
at the exam session. Acceptable payment methods are a check to ARRL/VEC
or cash. Contact Nick with any questions or to register. Include the
element(s) you wish to take. We generally administer only the Technician
class exam (element 2), but will attempt to make other elements available
if requested in advance.

Exam Session Policies/Procedures
- Calculators are allowed, but not programmable calculators.
All you need is a four-function calculator, and it isn't that hard to do
the math by hand. For any calculator, you must be able to
demonstrate to the examiners that the calculator's memory has been
cleared.
- You must be able to positively identify yourself. A state driver's
license with a photo is acceptable. If you cannot present a driver's
license or
equivalent government-issued photo ID card, contact the exam team to
determine what
other documents will be appropriate. We will keep a log of the
identification documents which have been presented.
- Generally, the MSOE ARC VE Team only administers the element 2,
Technician class written examination. Also, preregistration is generally
required. Contact the exam team with questions.
- You must sign the RF safety compliance statement.
RF safety statement info
- Please complete NCVEC
form 605 and bring it with you to the exam session.
- You may obtain an FCC Registration Number (FRN) using the link
above and use it in place of your social security number on NCVEC form
605 and other forms at the exam session. If you register an FRN, write
it down and bring it with you to the exam session. Never register more
than one FRN.
- You must pay the current ARRL/VEC exam fee. ARRL/VEC sets the price
and gets the money, and there isn't much we can do about it. The best
payment method is a check made out to ARRL/VEC.
- You may use scratch paper, and you may generally write on your
exam. All notes become exam papers and must be identified with your name
and the date, and then turned in to the examiners.
- Observers are welcome at all exam sessions, as provided for by FCC
regulations. However, observers must not be disruptive.
